Thickness's of the shelf to accommodate such lights depend upon your selection. In the past lights of one form or another have been used in shelves as thin as 25mm upto 50mm and beyond.

I can design your wardrobes to your required specifications, and produce a sketch for your approval. Once the design is agreed and you decide to go ahead with the work I will need to take a 33% deposit to cover materials I will use MDF or Laminated boards or real wood for the wardrobes depending on our agreement. Lighting inside wardrobes
Clothes rail LED strip lighting is fitted instead of the normal hanging rail. This interior lit hanging rail has a sensor which turns on a light automatically once you open the door. Wardrobe lighting is low energy, but bright enough. Low-level lighting is an extremely useful addition to your fitted wardrobes, but it does cost. Typically costs for these kinds of hanging rails to measure, order, collect and fit comes in at about £190 per rail. However incorporating hanging rail lighting into wardrobes has clear advantages.
